Connected Communities is a wireless broadband company that is responsible for the providing a wireless Internet experience that connects schools, corporations and people in the Outer Hebrides. In current news the company has recently received the greatest display award at the Bridging the Broadband Gap two day meeting. The actual meeting took place in the city of Brussels. The project submitted by Connected Communities was chosen from about 160 different projects from all over the continent of Europe that had applied. They won by beating nine other United Kingdom projects submitted by other business. Receiving such a high honor shows how innovative the company is. The winners of the awards were chosen by the existent participants of the conference from the fifty demonstrations. The service provided by Connected Communities which won, functions by using a 5.8GHz wireless network, that potentially can provide speeds of 54Mbps to users. The reaches 33 different locations which, exceeds from the plan. The network reaches farther then their expectations. The network is powered using existing masts where usable. In locations where there are not any masts there are plans for them to be developed within the near future.
