In UK, broadband service is provided through a number of service providers. One can compare the facilities provided by the providers covering the area and select a suitable one. Postcode of the area is also a factor to receive broadband.
Some providers like BT or AOL provide ADSL broadband service through an active phone line. However one can receive cable broadband without a phone line in localities where cables are laid for broadband service.
